The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's small concert spaces.

The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his third album his work was named the best record of the past year.

He has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues stemming from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to give his award prize money to charitable organizations.

In they received the trophy in the mid-90s for their release Different Class, vocalist Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would contribute their cash to the non-profit War Child.

That year, artist she shared her prize between several good causes, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Previously, the band contributed their funds to the youth organization that developed their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated artist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two small stages in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
